Honda’s Civic range has been given a much needed boost in the eyes of fans, with the unveiling in the US of a new version of the Si variant.

Hot hatches are becoming ever-hotter - such as Honda’s famed Civic Type-R which in its current form pumps out 235kW and 400Nm from a 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.

Such figures leave a huge gap between the entry-level Civic and the front-wheel-drive Type-R performer - both in power and price - which is why Honda has chosen to follow other carmakers with a ‘warm’ version of its small model.

Honda says the latest Si is the “most agile, best-handling Si yet”, and it comes with a handy 26kW/40Nm boost to its 127kW/220Nm 1.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine for new outputs of 153kW and 260Nm.
