Honda BR-V ‘Prototype’ Debuts As 7-Seat Compact SUV For Developing Markets

Honda has unveiled the BR-V seven-seater SUV at the Indonesian International Auto Show this week, however if you were expecting a plus-sized companion to the CR-V, prepare to be disappointed.

Designed and built as a joint venture between Honda and PT Honda Prospect Motor in Indonesia, the BR-V (or Bold Runabout Vehicle) is powered by an 88kW/145Nm 1.5 litre borrowed from the Jazz light hatch and boasts modest proportions.

Available with a six-speed manual or CVT automatic, the BR-V will enter production in January 2016 exclusively for the Indonesian market with a pricetag ranging from AU$22,700 to $26,100.

The equipment list is fairly slim, with only dual front airbags offered as standard. ABS, EBD and stability control are standard, however, as are ISOFIX child seat anchorages and hill start assist. 

Air conditioning outlets for the second row are standard (and crucial for tropical climates like Indonesia's), and are something that's missing from the HR-V compact SUV available here.

Honda's plan is to eventually roll it out across other markets in the region where demand for compact, affordable seven-seaters is strong, however Honda Australia confirms that this country is not on the BR-V's destination list.
