Honda has revealed a new seven-seat SUV 'prototype' ahead of its first public appearance at the Gaikindo Indonesian International Auto Show in August. But is this the long-awaited RHD successor to the MDX crossover?

While the MDX continues to be sold in North America as an Acura (alongside the mechanically similar Honda Pilot), Honda Australia has been without a three-row SUV since the MDX left our shores in 2006.

Unfortunately (or not), Honda Australia confirms that the BR-V is not a part of its upcoming product plan.

But would it suitable for our market? Details of the BR-V - or "Bold Runabout Vehicle" - are slim at this point, with Honda only saying the Indonesian show car will be powered by a 1.5 litre engine and is configured for a manual or automatic transmission.

Dimensions aren't stated, but the 1.5 litre engine is a clue to the size of the BR-V. Though it touts a seven-seat capacity, the underpinnings are likely Jazz-based, so a Kluger rival it most likely is not. Think of it instead as a stretched HR-V.
