Holden's upcoming Volt extended-range electric vehicle has been awarded a five-star crash safety rating by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) this week.

On sale in Australia from November, the Volt counts advanced systems such as lane departure warning and forward collision alert in its suite of standard safety features. Both systems enter as a first for the Holden range.

The Volt is also equipped with eight airbags, a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, along with electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution and traction control.

The Volt is on sale in Australia from November, priced at $59,990 plus on-roads. Holden has also confirmed an eight-year/160,000km warranty on the Volt's battery and Voltec drive components, as standard with all Volt purchases.

Watch for TMR's full launch review of the Volt this week.

About the Volt

The Volt is driven primarily by a 111kW/368Nm front-mounted electric motor, paired with a small 1.4 litre petrol engine, the latter powering a generator that keeps the electric motor's lithium-ion battery pack charged.
