Gotcha. Holden's upcoming Trax crossover has been spied in Melbourne this week, ahead of its market debut later in the year.

Caught by TMR reader Peter, this Trax tester is a Chevrolet model, wearing the familiar dual-port grille and a taped-over bowtie badge.

In Australia, the Trax will wear a one-piece grille similar to the broad shield-design that adorns the Cruze.

While local details for the Trax are still to be confirmed, international engine options include a 1.6 litre petrol mill, the familiar 1.4 litre turbo, and a 96kW diesel four.

Depending on specification, six-speed manual and automatic transmissions will be on offer (the former getting a stop/start system), along with front- and all-wheel-drive configurations.

Those seeking practicality in the cabin will find a 60/40 split-folding rear seat layout, and 358 litres of storage space with the rear seats in their upright position.

The Trax will hit Australia later this year, where it will tackle the Subaru XV, the Skoda Yeti and the upcoming Ford EcoSport.

The new crossover's Opel twin could follow, with Opel Australia product manager Min-Sean Chew confirming to TMR that the Mokka is on the company's radar.
