Spearheading the development of a number of global models and platforms, and working closely with GM's international design centres on others, the local arm is an integral part of the carmaker's operations.
The appointment of Monaro designer Mike Simcoe to the position of Executive Director for General Motors International Operations Design was a landmark moment.
This week, Holden has released a series of videos that highlights its Melbourne-based design team, quizzing the crew on what it's like to pen the brand's next new car.
"This series tells the stories of Holden’s design team and how what they do plays a part both here in Australia and around the globe working at the forefront of automotive design," Holden says.
Holden's international design and engineering projects include the Cruze Hatch, the new Barina Hatch, and of course the Commodore and Caprice, which are exported in various forms to overseas markets.
Perhaps the highlight for Holden's design team is the Camaro, which scored for GM the 2010 World Car Design of the Year award.
"To have the talents of the Holden design team recognised in this way is a great honour and true recognition of the endless hours spent developing and honing the final theme," Holden design boss Tony Stolfo said of the award.
