With the days numbered for the locally-built Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon, Australian police forces are now forced to consider where they’ll turn for patrol and pursuit cars.

Toyota’s local Aurion and Camry are also set to go, as is the Ford Territory and Holden’s Cruze.

While the full extent of manufacturer's model plans is unknown at this stage, one model that may live on post-2017 - as a full import - is the Holden Cruze

And Victoria Police has decided to try the small car in its patrol fleet.

From October, a number of Cruze SRi sedans will join the patrol fleet on Victorian roads. This sees Victoria join the likes of Mexico, Malaysia and Russia which already use the Cruze for police duties.

The SRi is powered by a warmed-up 1.6 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 132kW and 230Nm, matched with a six-speed automatic transmission.
