Holden's latest - and likely last - evolution of the Commodore will go on sale next month with a slew of equipment upgrades and some modest price rises.

Some models have been dropped from the lineup, though, principally the LPG-capable variants and all Caprice models bar the V8-powered Caprice V.

However if you're a V8-loving Commodore fan (one may reasonably assume that describes every Commodore fan), you may be excited to see that GM's 304kW LS3 bent-eight now powers all V8 models in the range.

You may recognise it as the 6.2 litre V8 that sees service in varying power outputs across HSV's range of performance cars, and with 304kW of power and 570Nm of torque, the LS3 makes 34kW and 40Nm more than the outgoing 6.0 litre L77 V8.

Go for the SS, SSV or SSV Redline, and the LS3 also comes with a bi-modal exhaust with "mechanical sound enhancer" - not to mention a 0-100km/h sprint time of 4.9 seconds.

The mechanical upgrades don't end their either. The SSV Redline now comes with a full set of Brembo brake calipers at front and rear, which is also available as an option on the SS, SSV, Calais V and Caprice V

Calais V models equipped with the V8 now get a limited-slip differential as standard, too.

The SS, SV6 and Calais receive new 18-inch alloys while the SSV, SSV Redline, Calais V and Caprice V all receive a fresh set of 19-inch wheel designs.

Meanwhile the SV6 and SS range all receive a new front bumper and grille. Further cosmetic upgrades are applied to the SSV and SSV Redline in the form of a set of heat extraction vents on the bonnet, plus clear tail lamp lenses on the sedan.

Calais models also get the new clear tail lamp clusters, and all non-Evoke Sportwagons receive new LED tail lamps as well. The Caprice V gains a subtle bootlip spoiler.

Two new colours have been added to the palette as well - Slipstream Blue (all models except Caprice V), and Empire Bronze (all non-SS models).

The 3.6 litre V6 continues to be offered with no changes to output, with the SV6 sedan and ute still available with a manual transmission as standard. The V6-powered Evoke remains auto-only.
