Australia's best-selling large car has been given a boost this week, with the launch of Holden's Special Edition Commodore Equipe variant.

Launched with a driveaway price of $36,990 for the Equipe sedan and $38,990 for the Equipe Sportwagon, the new special-edition Commodore gets 18-inch alloy wheels, leather-trimmed seats and a rear-view camera with rear park assist.

Other features for the Equipe variants include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, chrome highlights to the instrument cluster, front grille and front fog lights, chrome eyebrow moulding for the rear boot lid for the sedan and Equipe badging.

The Sportwagon also gets a rear cargo blind, and both variants have a steel spare wheel. In all, Holden says the Equipe adds an extra $9500 worth of extra gear.

The news follows the announcement of the updated-for-2012 Commodore family last month, which saw a number of interior and exterior updates across the range.

“The MY12 update to Commodore has made a great car even better, and now the Special Edition Equipe models introduce a raft of fantastic extra equipment including a rear view camera,” Holden Executive Director of Sales and Marketing, John Elsworth said.

“At such a competitive price we expect it to be a winner in our showrooms.”

The Equipe variants are powered by Holden's 190kW 3.0 litre SIDI V6 flex-fuel capable petrol engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Standard safety features across the Commodore range include Electronic Stability Control with Anti-lock Braking, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Electronic Brake Assist and Traction Control. Six airbags are also standard.
