Holden's big new Colorado 7 off-roader has been spied roaming the streets of Melbourne this week, ahead of its early 2013 market debut.
Based on the new Colorado pickup, the seven-seat 4WD will enter the Holden range above the considerably softer Captiva 7 SUV.
The big wagon made its international debut earlier this year, revealed as the Chevrolet Trailblazer. In Australia, it will be the Holden's first body-on-frame family 4WD in nearly a decade.
Speaking in March, Holden marketing boss John Elsworth said the carmaker expects the Colorado 7 to build on the success of the Captiva, while offering buyers greater freedom.
“The Colorado 7 will be a perfect fit for customers looking for the increased packaging flexibility and lifestyle benefits of clever interior storage, seven seats and rugged off-road performance," Elsworth said.
In concept form, the Colorado 7, and the Chevrolet Trailblazer, is powered by a new 2.8 litre turbodiesel engine - likely the same 132kW/470Nm mill that features in the Colorado pickup range.
Like the pickup, the Colorado 7 features a body-on-frame design, and Holden promises solid off-road and towing performance for the big SUV.
