Holden employees at the Elizabeth plant in South Australia yesterday put the finishing touches on the carmaker’s 100,000th locally-built Cruze small car.
The milestone model was an SRi Z-Series hatch with a ‘red hot’ paint finish, bound for Canberra’s Commonwealth Motors Holden dealer in Phillip.
It’s taken around 3.5 years to reach the 100,000 mark for the Cruze in local production, with the first example rolling off the Elizabeth assembly line in March 2011.
The hatch was perhaps a deliberate choice for Holden as its milestone model, as the sibling to the existing small sedan was designed by Holden at its Port Melbourne facility and is now sold in 118 countries.
