The all-new Astra small car has claimed the European Car Of The Year gong for 2016, as voted by a panel of 58 automotive journalists representing 22 European markets.

Sold as an Opel model in Europe and Vauxhall in the UK, the Astra is also sold in Australia wearing Holden badges - but local showrooms are yet to stock the all-new 2016 model.

That will change by the end of this year, and Holden’s enthusiasm for its arrival has heightened following the award.

“We already knew that Astra was a world-beating vehicle and this latest prestigious award cements those credentials,” Holden Executive Director of Sales, Peter Keley, said.

“World-class vehicles like the Astra embody the rejuvenation of the Holden brand. Astra is one of the most technologically advanced small cars in the world; in addition to an intuitive infotainment system, it also boasts a range of premium features you would usually expect only on high-end prestige vehicles.”
