The Holden Astra five-door hatch will be making a comeback in late 2016, with the company confirming it will bring the all-new Astra to our shores by the end of next year as a fresh-faced entrant in the ultra-competitive small hatch segment.

Holden also confirmed that the new Astra five-door will be an all-turbo affair, with two turbocharged petrol engines - a 1.4 litre and a 1.6 litre - to be offered in Australia. The 1.0 litre three-cylinder and 1.6 diesel will be staying behind in Europe.

The announcement was made as the 11th-generation Opel Astra (which will be rebadged as a Holden) made its motor show debut at Frankfurt, with Holden's Executive Director of Sales Peter Keley confident it would resonate with buyers.
