The name Henrik Fisker may not be a household name just yet, but that’s not for lack of trying.

The Danish automotive designer has been credited with penning the Aston Martin DB9 as well as creating bespoke styling kits for Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Aston Martin vehicles, before creating his own vehicle line, the Fisker Karma - the world’s first premium electric car with a range extender.

That venture declared bankruptcy in 2013, with the Karma going on to be reborn as the Karma Revero.

But, unperturbed by misfortune, Henrik Fisker has declared in an interview with Bloomberg that his new California-based company, Fisker Inc, is set to enter the premium EV market in 2017.

“Now we have the technology that nobody else has. And there is nobody even close to what we are doing out there.” Fisker told Bloomberg.

Other details about the vehicle, and the new technology that will power it, remain scarce, though it is known that Fisker Nanotech is a division within the new Fisker Inc. company tasked with developing the propulsion system.

Project goals for the new vehicle are believed to include best-in-class battery range, and an extended use of lightweight materials within the battery to help manage weight.

Images of the new vehicle won’t surface before mid-2017 according to Henrik Fisker himself, with only a single teaser sketch offered at this time.

A second more affordable EV is also planned to follow the premium offering, however its development hinges on the success of the flagship model in a similar way to Tesla’s plan which sees the mass-market Model 3 follow the premium Model S and Model X.
