Debuting at the Beijing Auto Show this week is the new Haval H7, and the Chinese carmaker has confirmed Australia will be one of the first markets to see it outside China.

Available in either a five- or seven-seat layout, Haval says the H7 “represents a new level of luxury and technology for the company”.

“It’s a very important vehicle for us and for the Australian market,” HAVAL’s Pierre Leclercq said.

“Australia is a very important market for us. It is one of our first export markets and we know how popular SUVs are with Australian customers.”

Mr Leclercq said the H7 was an example of the effort invested by Haval into quality control, and is another “step-up” for the brand.

The H7 is perched on an all-new platform for Haval, and will slot into the carmaker’s Australian line-up beneath the H8 and H9 which are already on-sale here.

Power comes from a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 170kW and 355Nm, matched to a six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The 0-100km/h sprint takes nine seconds.

Interior features include a new TFT instrument panel and a 12-inch infotainment screen, while safety features include autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, forward collision warning and ‘360-degree view’.

The 2016 Haval H7 is already on-sale in China, but Australian customers will have to wait until the second half of next year to see it in local showrooms with pricing yet to be confirmed.

The H7 will be followed by the new H6 later this year, but Australian availability for the H6 is also yet to be confirmed.
