Great Wall Motors distributor Ateco has confirmed that its X200 SUV will go on sale in Australia from April, starting at $25,990 drive-away.
Power for the Chinese SUV is provided by a four-cylinder turbodiesel engine delivering 105kW and 310Nm of torque, with fuel consumption listed at 7.6 l/100km.
The entry model is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and on-demand all-wheel-drive, and a five-speed automatic with on-demand all-wheel-drive and cruise control (auto variants only) is available at $28,990 drive-away.
Standard features include leather seats, air-conditioning, power mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, 17-inch alloy wheels and a touch-screen system with MP3/CD/DVD compatibility and six speakers.
On the safety front, the X240 carries a 4-Star ANCAP crash safety rating and it is likely that the X200 will warrant the same result.
It is fitted with driver and front passenger airbags only, leaving out side-impact side and curtain airbags but offering the now federally-mandated Electronic Stability Control as standard.
Anti-lock brakes and electronic brake-force distribution are also standard, along with a rear parking camera (still not a common standard feature in the Australian market), reversing sensors and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The X200 is covered by a three-year / 100,000km warranty.
Unfortunately, I doubt we'll ever be able to provide informed opinion about the quality of the vehicle or the merits of the purchase. Before considering a purchase, you might wish to ask the distributor Ateco as to why there are so few Australian press reviews of Great Wall products.
