If the upcoming Need For Speed film wasn't enough to satisfy fans looking for an alternative to the Fast & Furious series, there's reportedly another game-based film on the way.

According to entertainment website The Wrap, Sony's iconic racing simulator Gran Turismo will be the next game to make the leap to the big screen.

The report claims that Sony's gaming and film divisions have partnered with the producers of the upcoming 50 Shades of Grey adaptation to develop the Gran Turismo film.

It's unclear at this stage how the game's themes will translate to film and, considering the series has no real plot, the connection is likely to be a loose one.

The move is understood to have come in response to news that Fast & Furious is now Universal Studios' most profitable franchise, explaining the sudden rush of automotive films.

Along with Need for Speed and the coming Fast & Furious 6, filmgoers will soon have Ron Howard's Rush to consider, along with the Snake & Mongoose drag racing and Hot Wheels film.
