Sony has unleashed the first video preview and screenshots for the upcoming Gran Turismo 6 game, bound for the PlayStation 3 (yes, the PS3) later this year.
Released during a special 15th Anniversary event at England's Silverstone circuit, the preview revealed details of the new game, and boasted of the franchise's successes.
Among the Gran Turismo series' accomplishments, Sony boasts 70 million players, three billion races hosted online, and over 45 million 'online miles' covered. Not bad.
"It's amazing to think that 15 years have passed since the first launch of Gran Turismo," the game’s creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, said in a statement. "Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream.
Buyers of the new Gran Turismo 6, expected to debut on November 28 (although still not confirmed), will have access to 1200 cars, continuing the franchise's history of offering a massive selection of models.
Silverstone will be one of seven new locations available to (virtually) compete at, making for a total of 33 venues. Players will have 71 course layouts to choose from, with 19 brand-new tracks among them.
As for the new game's PlayStation 3 launch - instead of as a flagship launch title on the upcoming PS4 - Yamauchi pointed to the hugely loyal following of the current platform, and promised key updates when the next console arrives.
The company also announced a new physics and graphics engine for the game that "pushes the limits" of the PS3, and a number of downloadable items will also be offered.
Little else is known about the next GT chapter, although it is known from previous presentations that a pair of modified 60s heroes - a Ford Mustang Mach 40 custom and a Chevrolet Camaro - will appear in the garage.
