Car sharing group GoGet has opened its largest 'pod' to date and the largest in Australia, right next door to Sydney’s Central Station.

Called the ‘SuperPod’, the new facility will have no less than 44 cars at its disposal, housed in a new $2 billion Central Park development in Chippendale.

GoGet is a membership-based car sharing group that allows participants to ‘borrow’ communal cars at a time and place of their choosing.

Members can choose from a variety of GoGet cars (light hatches are most popular) from nearby pod locations and use a swipe card to access the locked vehicle.

The SuperPod will offer the full range of GoGet vehicles including Alfa Romeo, Hyundai, Toyota and Audi models, available in ute, wagon, hatch and people-carrier body-styles.

“The SuperPod is all about how car share has become critical for people who want a wardrobe-like choice of vehicles without the needless expense of owning one,” GoGet co-founder, Bruce Jeffreys, said.

“With these kinds of options, you can literally select a car to fit your mood or errand. Residential developers are able to enhance their projects with car share, benefit their surrounding communities and maximise their returns.”

Development group Frasers Property Australia estimates that 1000 people already call the Central Park development home, while another 7000 potential customers will live and work in the immediate area upon the project’s completion.
