Sharing much of its technology with the Holden Colorado, the new Canyon debuts with the familiar 'All-American' styling worn across the GMC range.
The Canyon joins the US-market Chevrolet Colorado as a model designed for American buyers, and GM says that both models have been engineered to the same standards as its full-size US-market 'trucks'.
Engine options for the Canyon will include GM's 145kW/253Nm 2.5 litre four-cylinder petrol engine, along with a 225kW/366Nm 3.6 litre petrol V6. A 2.8 litre diesel will join the range in 2015.
A six-speed auto is standard across the range, although 2.5 litre models can be optioned with a six-speed manual in extended-cab RWD form.
Three bodystyles will be offered - extended-cab and two crew-cab variants - along with base, SLE and SLT trim grades.
Four-wheel-drive will be available, and an All-Terrain package with 17-inch aluminium wheels, off-road tyres and uprated suspension will be offered as an option on those models.
Don't expect to see this one in GM's Australian showrooms, but you might see a few private imports pop up on local roads.
