Volkswagen has confirmed its new Arteon fastback will star at the Geneva Motor Show in a couple of weeks ahead of an Australian launch in September.
To be positioned above the Passat, and taking the CC theme further upscale, Volkswagen says the Arteon is an ‘avant-garde grand turismo’ and will be the German giant’s all-new entrant in the premium mid-size segment.
In essence, this is the finished product of a vehicle which started life as the Sport Coupe GTE concept, first shown at Geneva in 2015.
The three-syllable Arteon name (the emphasis on the first syllable) combines the terms ‘art’ and ‘eon’, the latter identifying the newcomer as a member of Volkswagen’s premium lineup like the Chinese market Phideon.
The teaser images show a stylish front-end with a complex LED headlight/DRL design which flows into a grille with six horizontal bars as well as a curvaceous rear.
