Though it may only be a relative newcomer in the prestige field Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury arm, is already hard at work establishing itself with the right kind of premium credentials.
One of the steps Genesis has taken to boost its profile includes creating a new Chief Designer position at the company’s Global Advanced Design Studio in Europe and staffing it with former Bugatti designer Alexander Selipanov.
Selipanov’s previous work experience includes time at the Volkswagen Design Centre in Germany before joining the exterior design team at Lamborghini to work on the Huracan, in 2014 he was appointed head of exterior design at Bugatti, and is responsible for the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo concept and the Chiron hypercar.
“I am sincerely excited about this opportunity, because it will be a new chapter in my career. As I have been working with well-established brands so far, Genesis is a new and refreshing challenge to me,” Selipanov said.
“It is a very rare chance to launch a luxury automotive brand and be part of its history. With growing expectations and curiosity around Genesis, I cannot wait to contribute my expertise and passion to the brand.”
In his new role, which officially begins in January 2017, Selipanov will report to Head of Genesis Design, Luc Donckerwolke also a former Volkswagen Group employee whose own CV includes time spent at Audi, Lamborghini and Bentley before joining Genesis in 2016.
The Hyundai Group’s role call of prestige senior staff also includes former Lamborghini marketing executive Manfred Fitzgerald, and former Bentley designer SangYup Lee, both now working establishing the Genesis brand.
