At the same time as General Motors announced its decision to pull the pin on Holden's manufacturing operations, on the other side of the world, it was making another important decision; replacing its Chief Executive Officer.

In mid-January 2014, Mary Barra, 51, will become GM’s first female CEO when current CEO and chairman, Dan Akerson, retires.

In 34 days from now, Ms Barra will create a small slice of history by becoming the first woman ever appointed to the top-job of a global carmaker.
