Lamborghini's Gallardo, introduced in 2004, has survived to today with a number of updates and special-edition models, including a facelift revealed in September.

Now, the marque has confirmed its entry-level supercar will reach the end of its life cycle in 2013.

“It’s been a crazy beautiful ride for the past decade,” Lamborghini says of its smaller coupe. “And now the last Gallardo is here, the final masterpiece of the collection.”

What will replace the Gallardo remains unknown, but reports suggest it could wear a Huracan, Cabrera or Deimos badge.

Few other details have been revealed, but Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winklemann has already confirmed there will be no H-pattern transmission option in future, likely leaving a new dual-clutch automatic as the only transmission choice.

Further simplification could include a hardtop-only lightweight model, or Spyder variants available in rear-wheel drive only.

Lamborghini’s characteristic plethora of limited edition versions is likely to continue however, though not until further into the new model’s life.

This secret is likely to remain until the new model officially surfaces some time in 2014.
