Feeling overwhelmed by all the news and new models pouring out of the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show?

Well, now that the dust has settled, TMR has put together a form guide of what’s what.

Of the models most important to Australian buyers, it’s hard to overlook the 2014 Nissan X-Trail. The sleek new design brings it into line with the brand's newer styling, and the SUV should be offered locally in both five- and seven-seat layouts.

Engine options are still to be finalised, but there’s every chance we could see a 2.0 litre petrol-hybrid option when the new model arrives next year.

A car certain to stir emotion in Australia is Honda’s new Civic Type R. Honda confirmed that a 2.0 litre turbo engine will power the new hot-hatch, with an output of ‘at least’ 206kW.

The Japanese carmaker wants the new Type R to be the fastest front-wheel-drive car around the Nurburgring and, off the back of recent testing at the circuit, Honda has declared it's damn close already.

Volkswagen also revealed a hot-hatch in Frankfurt; the new Golf R.

Power and torque for the new model have been lifted from 188kW and 330Nm to 221kW and 380Nm respectively, but Australia’s hotter climate may see the new figure fall to 206kW.

The new Volkswagen Golf R is due here in 2014, with pricing yet to be confirmed.

So what other new models and concepts are gracing the pavilions at Frankfurt?

There’s plenty of new work from Audi, including the 2014 A3 Cabriolet, the updated A8 and S8 luxury models, the Sport Quattro concept and the go-anywhere Nanuk Quattro concept.

BMW has concentrated on electric technology, with its new i8 Coupe, and the X5 Concept5 with plug-in hybrid eDrive system.

For those looking for something a little more extreme, check out the Ferrari 458 Speciale, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse, the Porsche 918 Spyder and the Formula E electric race car.

From the French carmakers, we have the Citroen Cactus SUV concept, the Peugeot 308 R Concept, the Renault Initiale Paris Concept and a trio of new and updated Peugeot models; the 208 Hybrid FE, the 5008 and the 3008.

The Mercedes-Benz stand has proven to be a busy place in Frankfurt, with the CLA 45 AMG Racing Concept, the S-Class Coupe concept and the new GLA model all on show.

The GLA is set to arrive in Australia in the second half of 2014.

The 2014 Skoda Yetti is on show in Frankfurt, with the new model expected to arrive in Australia soon. Skoda’s new Rapid Spaceback is also on display.

The Ford stand has been occupied by its seven-seat S-Max Concept, expected to replace the current generation S-Max which has been on sale in Europe since 2006.

A pair of new Golfs join the also-new Golf R at the Volkswagen stand, with the soon to be produced e-Golf electric car and the Golf Sportsvan Concept flying the VW flag.

Besides the new Civic Type R, Honda has also brought its 2014 Civic Tourer Wagon to Frankfurt.

Volvo promised its “vanilla days were over”, with the unveiling of its 300kW Coupe Concept.

Suzuki’s iv-4 Concept previews a new compact SUV offering from the Japanese carmaker.

Speaking of SUVs, Jaguar’s C-X17 concept is also in Frankfurt, previewing a probable future SUV for the big cat.

Following on from a sizeable price-cut to its current Australian line-up, Infiniti’s new Q30 small car is on show in Frankfurt.

Kia's new Niro concept is also on show, hinting at a Juke rival for the Korean giant-slayer.

From Lexus, we have the dramatically-styled new LF-NX concept, with every chance the concept could preview a new compact Lexus SUV.

Despite having exited the Australian market, it’s still all-systems-go for Opel elsewhere in the world, with the carmaker showcasing its Monza Concept at Frankfurt.

And finally, Toyota has given us a tasty preview of just how far hybrid performance technology can go, with its Yaris Hybrid R concept.
