Ford Performance Vehicles has unleashed a new GT RSPEC, arriving as the brand's new limited-edition performance king.

Priced at $76,990 plus on-roads (up from $71,290), the GT RSPEC adds re-tuned suspension and nine-inch wide rear wheels wrapped in 275/35 R19 Dunlop Sports Maxx tyres.

The starring attraction in the RSPEC's feature set however is the addition of launch control for both the manual and automatic models.

As with all systems of its type, FPV's launch control system is designed to tailor torque delivery for optimum performance off the line, reducing the amount of wheel-slip that occurs under heavy acceleration from standing.

The new launch system and firmer rear suspension tuning is backed up by stiffer transmission mounts.

“From the outset with the GT RSPEC we wanted more agile handling with better traction, and so the suspension had to be considered holistically, unlike the aftermarket, where you might bolt on a set of wider tyres and hope for the best,” Prodrive Australia Chief Engineer Bernie Quinn said.

“The new car thus received a significant number of component changes to develop this totally integrated package.”

The suspension package has been given a comprehensive overhaul in FPV's bid to create the "finest-handling GT in history" - a project 18 months in the making.

In the rear of the RSPEC, you'll find higher spring rates, re-tuned dampers, a larger anti-roll bar, and reinforced rear lower control arms.

Up front, there's stiffer upper control arm bushes, stiffer front upper suspension strut mounts, and re-tuned dampers.

Along with the wider wheels and low-profile rubber, FPV has also revised the toe setting of the rear wheels for better turn-in response.

Power remains unchanged, the GT driven by the company's hand-built 5.0 litre supercharged V8, producing 335kW at 5750rpm and 570Nm of torque between 2200 to 5500rpm.

More than a few existing FPV GT options remain add-ons here though, including the optional Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes, and satellite navigation with SUNA traffic control.
