Nissan Chief Planning Officer Andy Palmer has jumped ship to become the new boss of British marque Aston Martin.

The move makes Palmer the second top-ranking Nissan executive to leave in recent months, with former Infiniti boss Johan de Nysschen departing for Cadillac in July.

Mr Palmer has been recognised as one of the ‘voices’ of Nissan for some time, and most recently acted as interim Infiniti boss.

Aston Martin said in a statement today that Palmer will “lead the company in its next phase of technology and product creation”, but he has a few loose ends to tie up with Nissan first.

Following a brief transition period, Palmer “will assume operational responsibility for all aspects of the business”.

Palmer, 51, has worked in the automotive industry for 35 years in various roles involving engineering, management and business operations.

Palmer joined Nissan in 1991, after serving with Austin Rover for five years prior.
