A new engineering firm established by former Holden managers has sprung up out of Melbourne, and the group has just announced its first major coup.

Called Red Lion Engineering, the company describes itself as “an expert automotive engineering service company created by former GM Holden engineers”.

Red Lion says its engineers have an average of 15 years design and development experience and have executed major vehicle programs for the US, Europe, China and Korea.

The company can now also boast of its first major client, announcing a deal this week with Chinese carmaker and Volvo owner; Geely.

The contract involves Red Lion supplying “automotive engineering services” to the Chinese carmaker, and company engineering director Kim Cheong said the move was an important step in retaining Australian talent in the face of major changes come 2017.
