Ford has issued a recall in Australia this week for its Ranger pickup and Territory SUV.

The pair may be affected by a problem with the output shaft speed sensor, which may see the vehicle unintentionally shift into first gear.

A sudden and unexpected gear change while driving may cause a loss of control for the driver as the rear wheels may lock-up. This could create a hazard for the vehicle occupants and other road users.

Combined, a total of 10,520 vehicles are on the recall list for Australia, which includes the Ford Ranger built between November 2011 and November 2012, along with Territory models built between September 2011 and February 2013.

Ford recommends drivers use their vehicles with caution and at a moderate speed until the recall is carried out.

The carmaker will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recall should contact their local dealer or phone Ford Australia on 1800 503 672.
