You’ll have been lucky to see a 2016 Mustang registered and on the roads in Australia at this early stage, but already the new model has come in for a price-rise.

Ford previously announced that its entire local allocation for next year has already sold out as the first examples rolled onto home soil in Melbourne last week.

Critics could therefore be forgiven for thinking the ‘Blue Oval’ is cashing in on the Mustang’s popularity, but Ford says financial pressures are to blame for the new price tags.

The enormous lead time from the Mustang’s announcement for Australia and the arrival of the first cars has seen a change in the local manufacturing landscape, plus a fall in the value of the Australian Dollar.

And it’s the latter that has contributed most to the price rise, with some models now $2500 more expensive than last month.
