Since launching in Europe earlier this year, Ford's pint-sized Fiesta ST hot hatch has been selling like hotcakes.

So much so, in fact, that Ford has decided to bump production up by 15 percent to cater for demand - demand which is more than double what Ford had initially anticipated.

In its first four months on sale there have been over 3000 Fiesta STs sold in the UK alone, with around 10,000 sales globally.

Ford expected to sell a modest 5000 cars over the Fiesta ST's first full year in showrooms.

Clearly the ST's 130kW 1.6 turbo engine and entertaining hot hatch dynamics have resonated with car enthusiasts Europe-wide.

“The customer and media reaction to the Fiesta ST has been extraordinary," said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, of Ford Europe.

"It’s really become an instant classic and orders have been extremely strong.

“We are doing what we can to increase production and try to meet demand.”

The Fiesta ST will launch locally at the end of this month priced from $25,990. With a pricetag that will make it the most affordable performance hatchback on the market, the Fiesta ST is bound to sell up a storm here In Australia too.
