The waiting game is over. Ford has revealed the Evos coupe ahead of its debut at Frankfurt next month, following reports this week of a new Focus-based concept.

Billed as a plug-in hybrid sports coupe, the Evos represents Ford's next-generation global design language and an evolution of the 'Kinetic' design language featured across its current line-up.

“We wanted the Ford Evos Concept to give a clear message about where Ford design is heading,” Ford design boss J Mays said.

“Our exciting new design DNA has been developed and refined by an intensive effort by all of our talented global design team.”

But hopes of a Scirocco- and Astra GTC-taming production debut for the Evos have been dashed, with Ford confirming that this concept is strictly a design and technology study.

As concepts go, however, this is an advanced one. The Evos is filled to the lid with improved and all-new technologies, including the ability to learn its master's habits, adapting the engine characteristics and driving controls to suit.

Inside, the Evos does away with the abundance of switches and knobs featured in today's cars, replacing it with an incredibly intelligent telematics interface.

The telematics system, a futuristic evolution of Ford's overseas Microsoft Sync system, can learn your work schedule and adapt to local traffic and weather conditions to get you there on time.

“The cloud-connected vision shows the enormous potential of tailoring the driving experience to suit the exact personal tastes and moods of the driver,” Paul Mascarenas, Ford's global research and innovation chief, said.

“From recommending a great driving road from friends on your social networks, or resetting your alarm clock to let you sleep in when a morning meeting gets cancelled.”

A slice of the home life moves into the new infotainment system also, thanks to its ability to synchronise your at-home and in-car preferences and programmes.

Listening to the morning news or a favourite MP3 track on your home computer before work? It will be waiting for you when you slide into the driver's seat.

The telematics system is also integrated with the plug-in hybrid powertrain, automatically selecting the optimum driving method: electric, petrol, a combination of both or juggling all three on-the-move, thanks to its familiarity with your driving style and regular routes.

Power and performance figures for the petrol-electric system haven't been revealed, although Ford promises a driving range of more than 800 kilometres from a single tank of fuel and charge of the lithium-ion battery pack.

Watch for more details at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show, and view more of the telematics system's features in the video below.
