Ford has at last revealed its rugged new Everest 4WD. Ford describes the wagon shown here as a concept, but there is likely to be few changes in the leap to production.

Previewed in Sydney today by Ford's global boss Alan Mulally - flown in to underline the company's commitment to our market - the Everest concept was created by the company's Australian design and production development team.

Few technical details for the seven-seat Everest have been revealed, although it is clear the big off-roader shares its architecture with the still-fresh Ranger pickup

But, unlike its obvious rivals - Holden's Colorado 7 and Mitsubishi's Challenger - the Everest has been given its own unique front-end styling.

Ford's familiar three-row trapezoid grille dominates the face of the Everest, flanked by brand-new headlights and a new bumper design.

The Everest also gets a restyled bonnet design, sitting above front quarter panels and A-pillars shared with the Ranger pickup (although with subtle cosmetic changes).

The rear end is of course all-new, with wide new lights sitting either side of a broad Everest-emblazoned grab bar.
