Ford’s US police cars are about to become ‘safer’, with the installation of a live tracking device to monitor officer behaviour.
The global carmaker says collisions are the leading cause of police officer fatalities, and hopes the new technology will ensure police are driving in a safe manner.
Ford co-developed the technology with California-based Telogis, which describes itself as “a cloud-based software platform”.
Unlike a ‘black box-style’ recorder, the Telogis system can relay a police vehicle’s speed and location in real time, while also reporting whether the occupants are wearing seatbelts.
