Fisker's long-and-low Karma extended-range EV will soon have a more affordable companion, in the form of the Atlantic four-door coupe.

Revealed in April, the new A5 Sportback-sized car is expected to tackle the larger models in the BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi families.

Details of the Atlantic's specifications have been kept secret, with only the source - BMW - of its small four-cylinder petrol engine revealed (that operates in combination with the electric motor).

According to details obtained by enthusiast site InsideEVs this week, the combined output of the petrol-electric system is 224kW, with a 0-100km/h time of 6.5 seconds listed.

The all-important fuel consumption figures are yet to surface, but the website says that the Atlantic's CO2 emissions will be as low as 50g/km.

The report adds that the documents reveal a sticker price of US$50,000 to US$60,000, although federal tax credits are likely to bring the price to around US$40,000.

The market debut of the Atlantic has reportedly been pushed out to sometime in 2014, with Fisker waiting on the US Department of Energy's approval for government loans.



Although the left-hook-only Karma is not expected to hit Australia, Fisker has confirmed right-hand-drive plans for the new sedan, pointing to a potential Australian debut.
