As Bugatti prepares to whip the covers off its last-ever Veyron special edition, the Veyron Ettore Bugatti Legend, rumours are circulating of its replacement.

And, if the rumours are to be believed, the next Bugatti hypercar is set to feature a 1100kW powertrain and a top speed of 460km/h - all from an uprated version of the Veyron's 8.0 litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine and an electric motor.

The report from the UK's Autocar magazine also states that Bugatti will apply direct-injection and electrically-assisted turbocharger technology to help improve fuel economy, emissions and low-RPM performance.

As for exactly how fast it will be, Bugatti has told prospective customers that it will hit 100km/h in even less time than the Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition, which is capable of achieving triple-digit speeds in just 2.5 seconds.

Zero to 100km/h in 2.3 seconds is reportedly the target.
