A seven-seat MPV could soon join Fiat's growing range of 500-badged cars, if these new images prove authentic.

Purported to form part of a patent application for a new model, the images reveal a stretched version of the recently revealed 500L five-door hatch.

Like MINI's Cooper range, the little 500 is rapidly moving beyond its original 'bambino' dimensions, with the larger L on the way and a new 500X compact SUV around the corner.

Whether this longer version of the L will eventuate remains to be seen, although reports point to a late 2013 European debut. If it does appear, it will likely be badged as the Fuoristrada 500 (a badge worn on past all-wheel-drive Fiat models)

For now, buyers can look forward to the roomier and more practical 500L to debut overseas in the coming year.

While Fiat's previous Australian distributor Ateco had ruled the small hatch out for a local launch, new controller Fiat Chrysler Group has confirmed it is watching the car's progress closely.

The reported 500 Fuoristrada could also be on the cards for a local debut. With markets flat or falling around the Mediterranean rim, Fiat will likely be looking for opportunities to expand its Australian line-up.
