Ferrari Superamerica 45 Revealed As Latest One-off Special

Ferrari's built-to-order Special Projects programme is straightforward: if you can afford, Ferrari can build it.

The latest example of Ferrari's coachbuilding handiwork is the Superamerica 45, built for American billionaire and erstwhile owner of the New York Post, Peter Kalikow.

Based on the Ferrari 599 - hinted at in its shared headlights and taillights - the Superamerica 45 gets its own unique styling, topped off by a swiveling carbon-fibre roof.

The flip-up-and-back roof is a feature the Superamerica 45 shares with the 575M Superamerica (see gallery) - but while the convertible 575M was built in the hundreds, Kalikow's bespoke Ferrari is the only one of its type.

The Superamerica 45 is finished in Blu Antille, matched to the colour of Kalikow's 1961 Ferrari 400 Superamerica cabriolet.

Images of the inside weren't released, but Ferrari says that, like the wheels, the Blu Antille colour scheme continues as highlights in the interior.

Other features include a chromed front grille, along with a burnished aluminium treatment to the A-pillars, wing mirrors and door handles.

Ferrari hasn't offered any hard details on the special car's powertrain, but the website for the Villa d'Este Concorso d'Eleganza - where the Superamerica 45 will debut - lists a 6.0 litre V12 engine - in all likelihood, a straight swap from the regular 599.
