Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo has reportedly revealed this week that next year's Geneva Motor Show will play host to the debut of a new and "very different" Ferrari model.

"You will discover at the Geneva Motor Show a very different new Ferrari that proves that we adapt as the world changes," the outspoken Ferrari boss said.

Rumours of a hybridised 612 Scaglietti have been circulating for some time, although it is likely that any hybrid offering would be built on a newer model - the 612 is due to be replaced by an all-new model in the next two years.

Earlier this year, Ferrari showed an ultra-efficient version of the California convertible at the Paris Auto Show, fitted with stop-start technology, intelligent engine cooling, variable air-conditioning and adaptive shift systems.

Before that, Ferrari showed its 599 HY-KERS concept at Geneva in 2009, pairing its 6.0 litre V12 engine with a 75kW electric motor.

What Ferrari has in store for Geneva remains to be seen, but the Italian supercarmaker has made no bones about its views on hybrid technology, seeing it as one of the many approaches the company may take as it moves to meet Europe's tough emissions laws.
