A single tweet this week may have delivered the latest hint that Ferrari will at last launch a new turbocharged V6-powered model in the next few years.

Ferrari already builds six-cylinder engines for stablemate Maserati, and the company has long been expected to adapt its new V6 F1 racing technology for its road cars.

Now, a post on social network Twitter by a writer with US magazine Motor Trend suggests that a new turbocharged entry-level Ferrari will arrive in 2019.

Citing an unnamed source at Ferrari, the writer said the new twin-turbo V6 supercar is being developed to more directly challenge the new AMG GT and McLaren’s recently revealed 570S - both driven by twin-turbo V8 engines.

Porsche’s six-cylinder 911 Turbo S also represents an obvious rival for the new Ferrari.
