Ferrari Planning Private Unveiling For Enzo Successor In 2012

Ferrari is wasting no time in 2012. Hot on the heels of its F12 Berlinetta unveiling, the carmaker has confirmed it will offer a first look at its successor to the legendary Enzo later this year.
Speaking with industry paper Automotive News, Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo said that a private unveiling will be held in late 2012, with invites limited to Ferrari's high-profile friends and long-time clients.
The rest of us can expect to get a look at the Prancing Horse's new hero car in early 2013, either at January's Detroit Auto Show or at the Geneva Motor Show in March, a full year from now.
Montezemolo confirmed that the new car will not carry the Enzo name, but will nonetheless be Ferrari's fastest and most powerful road car ever (the same title was given to the new F12 Berlinetta earlier this month).
“The F12 Berlinetta delivers 740 horsepower (552kW) and today’s Formula One cars have between 740 and 750 horsepower. Thus we are offering F1 power in a road car," Montezemolo told Automotive News.
“We want to surprise people not just in terms of price but also with the car itself."
Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa earlier confirmed that the Enzo's successor will feature a carbon-fibre chassis and a mid-mounted V12 engine.
The V12 engine in the new Ferrari FF delivers 485kW, and the F12 offers 552kW. We can likely expect the new hero car - known for now as the F70 - to deliver even more power.
We can likely expect the new car to weight considerably less than the 1360kg Enzo.
Felisa also said that Ferrari is continuing with development of its F1-like Kinetic Energy Recovery System. The technology could appear in the new flagship, although Felisa added that it must focus on improving efficiency "and not just be about performance.”
Whether the new hero will remain a limited-edition offering is unclear. Only 399 Enzo supercars were built, and only 349 F50s were produced.
