Ferrari has released a trio of pictures for its new topless version of the LaFerrari hypercar, ahead of an official unveiling at this year’s Paris Motor Show.

The pics show the LaFerrari Spyder from above, the front quarter and the side, but the carmaker is playing a few cards close to its chest.

Ferrari does say that the Spyder will be a limited edition model, as fans would expect, aimed at “clients and collectors”.

One such client is UK chef Gordon Ramsay, who let the cat out of the bag on the first episode of the reborn Top Gear television series by showing off the key to his LaFerrari Spyder, which was on order.

We say ‘was’, because Ferrari is usually less than impressed with those who reveal its secrets to the world. The status of Ramsay’s LaFerrari Spyder order is therefore unknown (but likely unchanged)…

Ferrari also revealed that the new model will be powered by the same 708kW hybrid system as the original LaFerrari hardtop, with a V12 petrol engine matched with an electric motor.

The roof is available as either a removable hard top or a removable soft top, and Ferrari says the aerodynamics for the Spyder have been tuned to match the drag coefficient of the hardtop - even without the roof in place.

Further effort has been invested into keeping the topless LaFerrari as taut as possible, with the Italian carmaker saying “significant and extensive modifications have been made to the chassis with the aim of retaining the same torsional rigidity and beam stiffness as the coupe version”.

Further specs and the proposed production run will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show.

Keen to secure one? Ferrari says ‘don’t bother’, as a special preview for clients was enough to ensure every example is spoken for and “the order book is closed”.
