The replacement for Ferrari's big 599 GTB Fiorano has been spied testing this week, covered head to toe in heavy camouflage as it roams Europe's roads.

The chunky garb suggests the testcar spied here, known internally as the F152, is the final production model rather than a 599-mimicking mule.

With a 2012 Geneva Motor Show debut scheduled, development of the 599's successor should now be nearing its end.

Little in the way of the new supercar's styling is shown, but it is clear from the testcar's profile that it will retain the 599's front-engine layout.

Expect the new model to pick up styling characteristics from the current 458 Italia and FF models, including stretched-back headlights and a wider grille design.

Power for the 599 replacement will likely come from the new 6.3 litre V12 engine that drives the FF, producing 485kW and 683Nm of torque.

A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission should also feature, sending power to the rear wheels.

Keeping weight down will be a new alloy monocoque body, rather than the full carbon-fibre body expected for the Enzo replacement.
