Ferrari’s topless 488 supercar has arrived on home soil, with an event in Melbourne today to mark its Australian debut.

The 488 Spider was first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in July, virtually on the same day that the 488 GTB arrived in Australia.

Orders for the 488 GTB in Australia already stretch well into 2017, and the 488 Spider could soon have a similar waiting list if Ferrari Australia boss, Herbert Appleroth’s warning is to be heeded.

Naturally for a new Ferrari, the Italian carmaker has lifted the bar further than ever before as it declares the new model to be the most high-performance Spider it has ever built.

A 3.9 litre twin-turbocharged V8 produces 492kW and 760Nm, matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Fuel consumption is rated at 11.4 l/100km.
