A new version of - or perhaps even a replacement for - Ferrari’s entry California roadster has this week come a step closer to an official unveiling.
Appearing in media inboxes today, a Ferrari release invites press to view the so-called ‘149M Project’ on February 12, ahead of Geneva Motor Show unveiling.
The Italian carmaker has revealed little else, although there are clues to be found in the project’s title.
The current California is known internally as the F149, while the M is likely a reference to Ferrari’s Modificato enhancement program.
More than a decade ago, Ferrari revealed the 575M, arriving as an upgraded version of the 550 Maranello before the 599 GTB’s debut in 2006.
Next week, we could see Ferrari retrace those steps, unveiling a hugely enhanced California before launching an all-new replacement model.
Earlier reports have suggested the California’s replacement will debut in 2014, although it possible those claims were in reference to this 149M upgrade.
For now, we can only wonder and speculate.
