The team behind the upcoming seventh installment in the Fast & Furious film franchise will reportedly use body doubles and computer animation to complete scenes featuring dead star Paul Walker.

Walker, killed in a car crash during a charity event in California last year, is understood to have already filmed a number of scenes for the film, which had neared the halfway point at the time of his death.

According to website NY Daily News, the film's producers have confirmed hiring four actors with similar physiques to Walker, while a computer-generated version of the star's face will be super-imposed during editing.

A similar method was used for the fourth Terminator film, which saw a body double stand in for the ageing Arnold Schwarzenegger - also the governor of California at that time - with a computerised and youthful version of the star's face masked in.

It is known that the script for Fast & Furious 7 has been revised to reduce the number of scenes featuring Walker's character Brian O'Connor, but that a shoots are still required to complete his part.

Describing Walker's final scenes before his death, co-star Vin Diesel wrote on Facebook:

“There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared … in the film we were now completing … the magic captured … and, in just how far we’ve come …"

The report adds that the character will not be killed off in this film, but that the new script allows for a touching tribute and graceful exit for the actor from the franchise.

Fast and Furious 7 is slated for an April 10, 2015 release in the US.
