The Range Rover's iconic boxiness may soon be dropped in favour of the Evoque's sharpened face and raked belt line. Reports out of Europe this week suggest the newest member of the family is a sign of sweeping styling changes across the range.

According to British magazine Autocar, Land Rover design chief Gerry McGovern has confirmed that some elements of the Evoque's styling have influenced the look of the larger Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.

“There are aspects of the design that will be key. Range Rovers usually have a level window line and the body’s side and glass areas are equal," McGovern told Autocar.

"We’ve got rid of both on the Evoque, but we’ve still got the signature floating roof."

McGovern added that the Evoque's long windscreen and rear window will also appear on the larger models, giving a more dynamic look to the new Range Rover model-range and leaving the utilitarian styling to the core Land Rover badge.

Reports last year point to a significant drop in weight for the new Range Rover, with a new aluminium chassis expected to slash more than 400kg from the new model.
