The UK will soon bid adieu to Mitsubishi’s Lancer Evolution X performance flagship, according to a recent report.

It is believed that there are just 10 remaining in unsold-stock, and no more are planned to be imported from Japan.

UK mag Autocar quotes Mitsubishi UK boss Lance Bradley as confirming the end of the model’s availability, citing the increased value of the Japanese Yen against the British Pound.

“We used to sell the Evo for £30k (AUD$45,600); now we would have to charge £60k (AUD$91,200),” Bradley told Autocar.

Bradley however asserted his interest in any future Evolution model replacement. "The UK is an exceptionally important market for the Evo. In our peak year we sold 1400 units,” he said.

Mitsubishi UK has also developed unique upgraded ‘FQ’ variants of the Evolution X, with the top-level FQ-400 tuned to deliver 300kW (up from 217kW standard).

A new-generation Lancer model is expected in 2014, but an Evolution version of the car is reportedly yet to be confirmed for production.

Mitsubishi has been hinting for some time that a new model would eschew the traditional Evo turbo four-cylinder drivetrain, with a more environmentally sound high-po hybrid the most likely alternative.

Bradley confirmed that if given the green light, the Evo’s drivetrain may depart from tradition, but the model is likely to continue using a sedan bodystyle rather than a five-door hatch.

Australia

Australian market Evos currently kick off at $62,390 for the entry five-speed H-pattern transmission model, having risen just $2400 since its 2008 local launch.

Year-to-date, Mitsubishi Motors Australia has sold 63 Evolutions, with June seeing seven sales.

Speaking with TMR today, Mitsubishi Australia's Corporate Communications Manager Caitlin Beale said, "We have no plans to stop bringing Evo to Australia as part of the Lancer line-up."
