We all knew about it, but now Ferrari has finally officially claimed credit for Eric Clapton’s one-off Ferrari SP12 EC supercar.

The 458 Italia-based creation was first uncovered by an eagle-eyed enthusiast during its surprise appearance in a London Ferrari dealership in March.

Now, Ferrari has announced that the model will feature in an upcoming issue of the official Ferrari Magazine (a teaser of which can be found here).

The legendary guitarist is a fan of the original 512 BB model from the 70s and 80s, having owned three to date.

Broken down, the model’s name stands for: Special Project, '12' - for the Ferrari 512BB styling inspiration, and EC for Eric Clapton.

The SP12 EC is the result of Clapton commissioning ‘Centro Stile Ferrari’ to create a contemporary model that pays homage to the classic Pininfarina-designed V12 model.

Yes, Ferrari will build you a one-off supercar if you have the means, and Clapton's Fezza is the latest of several ‘Special Project’ models constructed to date.

The most noteworthy predecessor would be the Enzo-based ‘Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina’ commissioned by US Ferrari collector James Glickenhaus.
