Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa has confirmed that the successor to the company's Enzo hero will feature a V12 heart. The news follows rumours that a twin-turbo V8 engine was also in the running for the job.
Speaking with press at the European launch of the 458 Spider, Felisa said the Enzo's replacement will get a mid-mounted V12 engine, along with a carbon-fibre chassis - just like the Enzo and the F50.
He did not offer details on size and power, but a rival for Lamborghini's new Aventador-powering 525kW 6.5 litre V12 is likely.
Ferrari's new 612 Scaglietti-replacing FF is powered by a front-mounted 6.3 litre V12 engine, producing 485kW and propelling the new Fezza to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds.
Felisa also said that Ferrari is continuing with development of its F1-like Kinetic Energy Recovery System. The technology could appear in the Enzo's successor, although Felisa added that it must focus on improving efficiency and not just be about performance.”
Timing for the arrival of the new model has not been confirmed. Ferrari has previously hinted at a 2012 arrival for the Enzo's replacement, along with a replacement for the 599 and an updated California.
